IVS 3D's strong focus on continued research and development ensures the company and products stay at the leading edge of 3D visualization technology. This commitment requires our research and development team to understand many of the processes that our clients go through on a regular basis in the field. Listening to our clients and gaining a broader understanding of their challenges allows us to provide our clients with leading edge technology that not only meets their requirements, but also improves the efficiency and effectiveness of their processes.
In the fall of this year, IVS 3D sent Product Specialist Erin Heffron to MosaicHydro's Multibeam Operator Training Course in Sidney, BC, Canada. The five-day course is relatively new and is aimed at surveyors who are new to multibeam echo sounder surveys. Topics covered in the course include practical acoustics, water column and vertical data, survey planning and execution, patch tests, and post-processing. The course concluded with a half-day survey in Sidney Harbor, as well as some post-survey time processing the data.
As part of IVS 3D's commitment to understanding our client's needs, Erin attended the course to gain a better understanding of how things work from the operator’s perspective. Since a majority of Fledermaus clients are tied in some way to either the collection, processing, or distribution of multibeam data, Erin felt it was important to gain a better understanding of what multibeam data collection entails and the problems they are facing with these data. She commented, "Mike Brisette does a great job of explaining all of the necessary components to planning a survey, outfitting and setting up a vessel for data collection, and processing that data. The survey and processing of Sidney Harbor really helped me to understand the "end-to-end" of multibeam data collection, and experience the same problems, annoyances, etc. that our clients encounter on a daily basis. I think this course was a great field supplement to the Ocean Mapping Group's Multibeam Sonar Training Course, which I attended in January of 2007."
MosaicHydro is a reseller and training partner for IVS 3D, and offers regional license sales and training for Fledermaus Standard and Professional. For more information about the course contact Mike Brisette at mike@mosaichydro.com.
