IVS 3D has appointed Maurice Doucet to the software development team as the Chief Systems Architect in the Portsmouth, NH office. With over 20 years of experience in the software industry, Mr. Doucet brings significant experience in commercial product development from consumer applications to real-time sensor control and data visualization. He joins IVS 3D from Triton Imaging where he was the Chief Technology Officer responsible for leading the development of sonar acquisition and processing software.
Mr. Doucet’s role will initially focus on a joint project with the Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping, University of New Hampshire, which is partly funded by a grant from the New Hampshire Innovation Research Center. The project addresses the data extraction, analysis and visualization of water column data from single beam and multibeam sonars. The development from this project will address the requirements of both the hydrographic and fisheries users in the emerging uses of these data.
"I had learned about IVS 3D and the breakthroughs that the Fledermaus software suite had made possible within the hydrographic industry with immersive 3D visualization. Not only have they been able to make viewing extremely large datasets in a 3D environment possible, they have continued to make innovations that provide users with detailed analysis, reporting, and presentation of those datasets." stated Mr. Doucet. "
Lindsay Gee, CEO for IVS 3D, stated “We are delighted to have Maurice onboard, and I have no doubt that his knowledge and experience will strengthen the already broad expertise of our development team. This will directly benefit our customers by keeping our products at the leading edge of technology.”

Shallow Survey 2008, held in Portsmouth, NH, was a fantastic home game for IVS 3D - at least the US office! With a solid week of seminars, presentations, and spending time with clients, it was a great opportunity for the worldwide IVS team members to gather together in one place. Lindsay Gee, Bill McKernan, Teri Bridges, and Erin Heffron from the US home office joined forces with Danny Neville, Anya Duxfiled, and Mark Paton from the Canadian office. Also attending were Duncan Mallace and Ian Davies from the UK, and Doug Bergersen from Australia.
"Congratulations must go to the team from CCOM/JHC UNH for putting together a great conference for Shallow Survey 2008 in a beautiful location with a stimulating technical program and fun schedule of social events. We were all very excited to be a part of this conference once again." stated Lindsay Gee, CEO for IVS 3D.
The week started with a one-day seminar, co-hosted by IVS 3D and GeoAcoustics, titled "Interferometric Sonars For Shallow Water Seabed Mapping - Data Processing Challenges and Solutions". The day began with presentations by co-sponsor Tom Hiller, Advanced Products Manager for GeoAcoustics Ltd., who presented an overview of interferometric sonar technology and applications. Lindsay Gee, General Manager of IVS 3D Inc., talked about the use of Fledermaus for processing interferometric surveys.
This was followed by two case studies of interferometric sonar surveys. Gary Davis, Chief Hydrographer for SAIC, presented a debris clearance survey in Lake Borgne, Louisiana. Duncan Mallace, Managing Director or NetSurvey, discussed the challenges of collecting and processing interferometric surveys to meet IHO Order 1 standards. After lunch the seminar concluded with a discussions led by a panel of representatives across the industry to further discuss the issues facing users in the acquisition and processing of interferometric sonar data for nautical charting surveys.
The main conference sessions continued from Tuesday through Friday, with no shortage of Fledermaus scenes, images, and discussions. Erin Heffron commented, "We were happy to see many clients present using the software. My favorite presentation was by LTJG Michael Gonsalves, who presented his work with the University of Southern Mississippi Hydrographic Science program. He showed a video-capture movie of his methods for CUBE editing in Fledermaus, with a great (and accidental) rock soundtrack."
IVS 3D team members also had several presentations throughout the week, including Duncan Mallace's discussion on his continued work with Netsurvey and the Port of London Authority, complete with the fantastic dock wall images seen below. He also presented new death-defying survey work around St. Michael's Mount off the coast of Cornwall. Lindsay Gee presented an extensive selection of the Portsmouth common dataset, and demonstrated some of the new functionality in the yet to be released Fledermaus Version 7.
In addition to the seminars, the exhibit hall was an active place to catch up with the latest trends and developments from various vendors. IVS 3D’s CTO Mark Paton and Software Manager Danny Neville were on hand to discuss the upcoming Fledermaus Version 7 release and other future developments.
